The Louisiana Funeral Directors Association (LFDA) was formed in 1918 by a number of funeral directors who wished to create a full-fledged professional body from a group of tradespeople. Today the LFDA embodies an organization of funeral directors with the shared aim of serving the people of Louisiana, whilst striving to constantly improve the quality of service we provide. The Louisiana Funeral Directors Association (LFDA) imparts a code of standards, ethics, protection and regulation of funeral service in Louisiana.  It delivers this through the education of Funeral Directors, Consumers and various branches of Government by creating an environment for discussion, fraternalism, professional mutual improvements and social interaction.

The State of Louisiana in the South is home to the great city of New Orleans, and hosts a population of 4,410,796 (2008).  The capital is Baton Rouge, and French as well as English are official languages.  Louisiana gets its name from Louis XIV, the King of France between 1643-1715, as the territory around the Mississippi was claimed by the French.

Louisiana has the second largest population proportion of black Americans (32.5%) in the United States, behind neighboring Mississippi (36.3%).  The 2000 census reported that people of Hispanic origin made up 2.4% of the state's population. By 2005, this had increased to an estimated 3 percent of the state's population, and the figure is believed to have further increased. The state has attracted an influx of immigrants from various countries of Latin America, such as Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, and New Orleans has one of the largest Honduran American communities in the USA.  In 2006 it was estimated that 50,209 people of Asian descent live in Louisiana. About 95% of Louisiana's Asian population resides in Baton Rouge, also home to well-established East Indian and Korean communities.

Louisiana, and especially New Orleans hit the global headlines in August 2005 when the tropical hurricane ‘Katrina’ devastated the SE area of the State.  80 percent of the city of New Orleans was flooded and over 1,500 fatalities resulted with over 2 million people in the State being displaced and made homeless as a consequence.
