| The Georgia Funeral Directors
Association (GFDA) has been representing funeral homes throughout Georgia for
over 100 years. The Association is based in Roswell Georgia and the current
President is Mr. Leroy W. Wilson from Oglethorpe, Atlanta. The
GFDA offer a wide range of educational forums and seminars throughout the year
to help members find out about innovative products and services that benefit the
funeral service profession. The GFDA also works closely with state regulatory
agencies to ensure all its members are kept up to date with all state and federal
laws governing the funeral industry. The
Georgia Funeral Directors Association also work with the NFDA (National Funeral
Directors Association) NFDA's
Mission Statement: The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) provides
advocacy, education, information, products, programs and services to help members
enhance the quality of service to families. Cremations
in Georgia run at approximately 18.5% with 12,370 choosing cremation as their
preferred choice for the funeral (2003). This number is expected to increase
to over 25% by 2010. There where a total of 66,542 deaths in Georgia during
the same period (2003). There
are 1,872 licensed funeral directors and 1,625 embalmers in the state Georgia
operating from 708 actual funeral establishments. There are now 56 crematories
in state.
