Plano is located mainly in Collin County, and is an affluent northern suburb of Dallas. It is the ninth-largest city in Texas with a population of around 273,600, and forms part of the DFW Metroplex area.
In 2005 Plano was named the best place to live in the Western United States by CNN Money magazine. It has also been classified as the wealthiest city in the U.S., and in 2010 was named as the safest city in which to live by Forbes magazine. Plano schools reportedly consistently score among the highest in the nation, making Plano a very desirable suburb to live in for middle-class Texans.
It is one of Dallas’s largest suburbs, but it is now more or less locked in by surrounding areas and cannot expand much further.
