Mesquite is located in Dallas County and is a suburb of Dallas, with a population of approximately 136,750. It is home to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and known as the “Rodeo Capital of Texas”. The city is also home to one of the largest movie theaters in the world, the AMC 30 Mesquite, which boasts 30 screens and a capacity for over 6,000 people.
Mesquite was founded in 1873 by a railroad engineer who bought up land along the T&P line outside of Dallas. The city was officially incorporated in 1887, and prospered as a farming community, until a suburban boom exploded in the area from the 1950’s.
