Irving is located within Dallas County, has a population of around 200,000, and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area. Irving contains the Las Colinas area, which was one of the first master-planned developments in the U.S.
Irving originally began in 1889 as an area named Gorbit, but changed its name to Kit. The city was founded in 1903, and incorporated in 1914, but population growth was slow with only 357 residents in 1925. The 1930’s saw Irving’s population begin to grow and by the 1960’s the city had around 45,000 residents.
Irving now has a rich and diverse population, including a large population of racial minorities.
